Scott Alexander places Free Cookie ads on Craigslist then waits for people to come. He said there’s no catch. Most people come and go without more than a few sentences. But Scott is there for a reason. He’s looking to make friends. Now don’t start feeling sad for him. The Minnesota native is not sitting on a blow up couch in city parks because he’s lonely. No, in fact he’s got a wife at home and a group of close friends in the city. He inflates the lime green couch every once and a while in order to get to know people and have them get to know him.
He is a doorman by day and a musician by night, creating non-repetitive pop music. And the real underlying purpose in the friend-making is to spread his music. Think real life Myspace–an artist becomes your friend, but this time it’s for real. He is super nice and personable and seems genuinely interested in learning about people. Having handed out the vegan cookies in Union Square, Central Park, Washington Square Park, and parts of Brooklyn, the UCLA grad says he’ll keep it up until the cold rolls in and people are too chilly to stop and chat. Find him on Facebook or follow him on Twitter to find out where he’ll be next.
